Appreciating Autumn

Stock photography by Michel Loiselle Welcome to the fall edition. Today, we’re looking at portraying fall in documents and reports. You will need visuals for your project, so let this post suggest a few ways to go about it. Have a look at these images for inspiration.

Conceptual photos can help get your message across. Sometimes an image speaks to you even though it’s not what you were looking for. Fall images are all about intensity, color and light. Things that seem insignificant, now become centre stage. Take this 3-rocks image. Because the rocks spell an odd number, they now demand attention. Use conceptual photos to portray complex scenarios. Just find a connection with your project.

Creatives are searching Stock Photo Agencies for the perfect shot. Making images for the design community is challenging. You must consider copy space, landscape and portrait orientations, rule of thirds, composition, focus, etc. We’re seeing more collaboration between the photo and design communities. For me, it’s all about pride.

Even though I’ve worked on Parliament Hill for 25 years and have been shooting the architecture since 2006, I’m still in awe. And when I see my photos used in official Canadian documents, reports and Web sites, the pride continues.

The Parliament is recognized by people around the world and represents Freedom, National Unity and Free Speech to many. Read my blog and see how this image-maker does it.

Photographing Canadians

Every year, I visit Parliament Hill on Canada Day. It’s simply wonderful! There are at least 100,000 people at any given moment and the free entertainment is incredible. You can see and hear musicians, buskers, circus acts, face painters, uni-cyclists, and anything else you can think of.

I photograph people who dress specifically for Canada Day on Parliament Hill and who want to show their pride and be different for a day. All of the people you see here were more than happy to pose with tourists and talk to everyone from around the world.

Standing on Parliament Hill with 100,000 people and seeing the Canadian Snowbirds fly over the Peace Tower is a special moment in my life. The sound of those jets alone wakes you up!

It was fantastic.

The Right Photo for the Right Project

Considering we’re all designing some type of communication like newsletters, communiqués, reports, presentations, blogs etc., read an idea that may help you choose the right photo for your Canadian document. A business project could go like this: We need an image that speaks loud but professionally. It should accommodate a title and other smaller text. And finally, it must portray Canada in a positive light.

Finding the Right Image

The image above, Political Glow fits the bill as it’s very striking and has room for title and text. Also, anyone, anywhere in Canada will relate to the architecture and sense of pride, making it ideal. I’ve added the PARLIAMENT – PART OF OUR HERITAGE title to show how text and photo work well together. The landscape orientation is ideal for PowerPoint presentations. Parliament Hill Like Never Before

Since 2006, I’ve turned my camera into a politically speaking machine. I don’t need to say much as the photos speak volumes about the Parliamentary Precinct and all its gothic architecture.
